چکیده

The applicatlon of scannlng electrochemical microscopy (SECM) in the feedback mode to two-dknenslonai scans over conductlve and insuiatlng substrates to obtain topographic information at the micrometer-level Is descrlbed. I n the feedback mode the effect of the conductlvlty of the substrate and dlstance of the substrate from a scanning ultramicroelectrode tlp on the current flowing at the tip caused by an electrode reaction Is recorded as a function of the tlp x-y position. Experiments wlth a 50-pm Pt wlre on glass, a ca. 50-pm glass fiber on glass, a gold mkrlgrkl, a Pt fdl, and a KCI crystal In both aqueous and acetonitrile solutions are presented. The construction of the SECM and the hardware and software that control three-dimensional tip movement and data acqulsltlon are also described.

Application of scanning electrochemical microscopy to biological samples.

The scanning electrochemical microscope can be used in the feedback mode in two-dimensional scans over biological substrates to obtain topographic information at the micrometer level. In this mode, the effect of distance between a substrate (either conductive or insulating) and a scanning ultramicroelectrode tip on the electrolytic current flowing at the tip is recorded as a function of the tip...

Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy. 37. Light Emission by Electrogenerated Chemiluminescence at SECM Tips and Their Application to Scanning Optical Microscopy

Electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) at a scanning electrochemical microscope (SECM) tip as the tip was moved in the vicinity of insulating and conductive substrates was studied either by ion annihilation or with a coreactant. The SECM/ECL approach curves (intensity vs tip-substrate distance, d) with both insulating and conducting substrates showed a decrease in ECL intensity with a decreas...

Scanning electrochemical microscopy. 41. Theory and characterization of ring electrodes.

Ring ultramicroelectrodes, which are of particular interest as probes for scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM), combined with near-field scanning optical microscopy, were investigated. Theoretical SECM tip current-distance (approach) curves for a ring electrode were calculated by numerical (finite element) analysis. The SECM curves obtained were a function of the geometry of the tips incl...

Fabrication and characterization of probes for combined scanning electrochemical/optical microscopy experiments.

A technique that combines scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) and optical microscopy (OM) was implemented with a new probe tip. The tip for scanning electrochemicaVoptical microscopy (SECM/OM) was constructed by insulating a typical gold-coated near-field scanning optical microscopy tip using electrophoretic anodic paint. Once fabricated, the tip was characterized by steady-state cyclic ...

Scanning electrochemical microscopy Part 13. Evaluation of the tip shapes of nanometer size microelectrodes

The shape of steady-state current-distance (i,-d) curves obtained by scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) with a submicrometer conical-type tip is substantially different from that obtained with a microdisk tip. A model is proposed to describe the i,-d curves for tips shaped as cones or spherical segments. In each case a family of theoretical working curves, computed for different values ...
